When I was small, I had a white, knitted beret with a navy blue pom-pom. My mom called it my "capalucci." It wasn't really a Winter hat as much as it was a Fall and Spring-type hat to be worn with sweaters and jackets. I wore it a lot.
My mom saved the hat; and many, many years later, my little sister wore it too. A lot.
This year my sister bought Gianna a red pea coat, and my mom immediately insisted that I needed to make her a red hat and mittens to go with it. She described a beret with bobbles, and I was off and running.
Pattern: Ninna Beret by Sari Astrom (English version available on blog) using Reynold's Soft Sea Wool Color 9069 on size 1 US needles.
This pattern was a delight to work. There was something mesmerizing about increasing every other row and then decreasing every other row. Easy. And the result, very appealing. Of course, I added bobbles. Lots of them.
OMG. Too darned cute. All of it. The skates picture - oh gosh. I REMEMBER those days!

How adorable - both the hat and the model!

Oh my goodness. She is absolutely adorable. What a cute face and a total little miss muppet in that lovely red beret. I loved seeing those old pictures of you with the fun beret. I remember a piece of headwear from my childhood as well, not quite as flattering as yours. It was this sheepskin hat that looked like I was wearing a wig. Awful.
